Don't Let The Sheepinator Fool You
Does
being amused by turning non-ovine creatures into sheep make you a bad
person? It
doesn’t seem like a serious question, but appearances can fool you.
Especially, according to Plato, if you are a fool. I think it’s safe to
say that there would have been no video games in the Republic.

Summer Fun Time Reading!
It's summertime and all the happenin'

The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking
Did you like Pitch Black but weren't so sure about the mad, operatic The Chronicles of Riddick? Worried that Riddick is just gonna be stuck on that Necromonger throne for eternity? Apparently, he won't. Dread Central has links to a new Riddick script review and concept art that's more PB than TCoR.
Avatar SCHMAvatar, or, Change the Playa Not the Game
The film industry
is a magical business. I don’t mean magical in the “Hollywood
movie magic” sense, as is typically employed by awards show musical
numbers and the California Board of Tourism. I mean that it is an
industry with a business model that is not, and by its very nature
cannot, be constructed on the bedrock of statistically
predicted effects and their verifiable causes. In fact, there are
more gaps in the film industry’s chain of cause and effect than
there are links. Those gaps are bridged by magic, that versatile
stuff that is one part fact, one part assumption, and one part
aspiration. Historically, magic has also gone by the names “faith”
and “bullshit”.

A Matter of Evolution: Monkeys vs. Robots
They've been brought together before in James Kolchalka's Monkey vs. Robot books, by Mecha Kong in King Kong Escapes and Mojo Jojo's mech-suited machinations in The Powerpuff Girls. Primates and robots each imitate and mock humanity in their own way. When the postapocalyptic future finally overtakes us, will we be replaced by the robots we designed to serve us or live in a world reclaimed by nature and ruled from Gorilla City?

Bad Fan
I've never been a good fan. I am grumpy, contrary and deeply perverse. So Gail Simone kind of sneaked up on me and, before I knew it, became my new trusted brand. I don't think I really noticed till I was excited because she was writing Wonder Woman

Follow-Up Visit
I love shiny new things. I’m also getting more ruthless about my time than I used
to be. Those competing impulses get resolved in a simple activity that everyone does naturally: following writers who have proved themselves in the past. On that note, here are a few follow-up visits to Gutter pieces of the past. What's been going on with the best stuff of the last few years?
